Solo Japan Part III: Back to Tokyo

Bunka Hostel in Asakusa, Tokyo

Day 4: Staying in Asakusa, Tokyo

After three pretty heavy travel days, I wanted to take a small break. Jampacking each day with an exciting adventure can be exhausting, and sometimes relaxation days or logistical days need to happen. Before this trip, I was traveling with a friend for a couple of weeks in Hong Kong and Vietnam (Hi Vanessa!) so it had been a while since I had days that just felt like regular life without all the running around/sightseeing.

While staying in Tokyo, I found that the Asakusa area had some affordably priced, well-reviewed hostels. It wasn’t right in the heart of the busier areas like Shinjuku or Shibuya but I felt like it had the things I needed like convenient shopping, restaurants, transportation, and last minute availability.

Because I was planning things as I went, having a reliable, clean, and cheap(ish) place was high on the list. The two hostels I stayed at were Bunka Hostel (above) and Khaosan Tokyo Samurai (dining area shown below) Both were about JPY3000/night for a bunk at the time. I felt like Bunka was a little fancier/quieter while Khaosan had a more relaxed/social vibe during my nights there. Khaosan Tokyo Samurai also had bunks with teeny extended shelving that you could make into a workspace which I liked. ^ ^

I ended up having to run some errands and found myself in the business area, Minato City. There wasn’t too much to see but the cherry blossoms were beautiful and it was nice to watch people going about their day. I even found a taste of home when I shockingly spotted a Dean & Deluca (upscale NYC grocery chain) in an office building complex!

I’m so happy that I was traveling in Japan around this time of year. It was a real treat to see the cherry blossoms.

Walking around without plans or a destination is one of my favorite things to do at home or in new places. And even when I’m not drowning in stickers or stuffing my face with noodles, Japan is still a pretty great place to be.

Next stop, Saitama and back to Tokyo for Team Lab Borderless on Day 5!
